SciMed to Speak at Oct. 9 Silicon Valley Women Entrepreneur Meetup - “The 3 Levers of Funding“

Fremont, CA - SciMed Partners’ CEO, Barbara Sue “Susie” Faries, will speak at the Oct 9 Meetup “Silicon Valley Recipes for Women Entrepreneurs.” Topic for the discussion will be: “The Entrepreneur’s Guide to the Three Levers of Funding.”

The presentation focuses on three key “levers” that start-ups and established organizations need to consider as part of their funding or product development strategy. It gives entrepreneurs and established companies guidelines for examining each as they build their business plans, investor materials, and product development processes. Focusing on these three areas also helps “de-risk” a venture or the development of a product.

Faries is CEO of SciMed Partners and CEO/Co-Founder of InnovaMedix, Inc., a wireless medical device start-up with applications in emergency medicine and trauma and sports/fitness. She was Vice President of Marketing for American Medical Response, the largest provider of emergency medical services in US ($1 billion in revenue) and Vice President of Marketing for American Medical Pathways, the $50M healthcare technology subsidiary of AMR. Her background also includes General Electric and Philips Healthcare. Faries comes from a well-known East Coast family of entrepreneurs with a 92-year track record of successful business operations. She is on the Advisory Boards of Innovation Center Denmark, Palo Alto, CA, Tech-RX, Palo Alto, and Secco2, Pleasanton, CA.

Dr. James Grant to Conduct WIPO Sessions in Tunisia

Grant, PhD, Senior Consulting Partner, Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology for SciMed Partners, has been tapped to conduct three key sessions at the World Intellectual Property Organization’s launch of its Technology and Innovation Support Center Network in Tunis May 25 - 27, 2010.
Dr. Grant will lead three sessions that include overviews of patent databases, search technologies, intellectual property strategies, and patent search techniques using the USPTO, PAT/FT, APP/FT, and JPO IPDL.
The workshop is organized and sponsored by the Institute for Standardization and Industrial Property (INNORPI) and WIPO. The objective is to widen and enrich intellectual property skills in emerging markets.

Dr. Grant holds a Ph.D. in Chemistry and is a registered Patent Agent at the USPTO. He is the former IP Manager at Pfizer and as an Associate Director of Patent Analysis at Bristol Myers Squibb. He has research background in drug design and medicinal chemistry and was Director of Chemistry, Contrast Media Laboratory, University of California, San Francisco.
